Profitroom has published the fourth and final part of its Middle East Recovery Series. Earlier parts argued that regional demand has shifted closer to home rather than disappeared, covered tools such as staycations, vouchers and flexible policies to protect cash flow, and made the case for the direct channel. This instalment turns those ideas into a practical self-assessment.
Five pillars, 15 questions
Hotels are asked to score themselves honestly, one point per "yes":
- Regional demand capture: is a staycation or GCC resident package live on the homepage, aimed at families driving or flying short distances, and reachable within one click?
- Flexibility and cash flow: is there a fully flexible, refundable rate; can guests buy vouchers or gift cards directly; and is a voucher offered before a refund when guests cancel?
- Direct channel strength: is the direct rate the best available; has the team test-booked its own site recently; does the booking flow work well on mobile?
- Guest relationship and database activation: have past guests received a genuine, non-promotional message in the last month; is the database segmented by geography to prioritise GCC residents; are pre- and post-stay messages automated?
- Visibility without upfront risk: is confidence messaging about flexibility, safety and openness visible immediately; is the hotel paying for clicks with no guaranteed stay; has it explored pay-per-stay models where cost applies only after checkout?
Reading the score
Profitroom suggests that 11 to 15 points means a property is "recovery ready" and should keep refining. Six to 10 indicates momentum, with the advice to tackle the weakest pillar first. Zero to five means it is time to act, though Profitroom says most gaps can be closed with existing tools in days.
Free audit
Profitroom is offering a free Direct Booking Audit for hotels in the region, with no cost or commitment, via its Middle East support page.
Why it matters
The checklist gives Middle East hoteliers a quick way to prioritise actions while regional markets rebalance, focusing spending on channels that convert into confirmed stays.
